Outstanding Stewardship Awards
Washington, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — At today’s Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Coalition Awards Luncheon, two New Hanover County projects received Outstanding Stewardship Awards for innovation and environmental awareness: the newly-renovated 320 Chestnut Street building in downtown Wilmington and New Hanover County Cape Fear Museum Park at 814 Market Street.
New Hanover County Cape Fear Museum Park, which opened in September 2015, was recognized for its innovative green space that features an interconnected park-like landscape, smart storm-water management, and engaging hands-on educational exhibits. The park was transformed from a former parking lot to bring the museum’s interpretive approach to history and science outdoors.
New Hanover County’s 320 Chestnut Street building was completed in October 2015 and features the County’s first green roof. As part of the major building renovation, a roof garden was planted to extend the usefulness of the new roof membrane, to provide natural cooling, and to reduce the environmental and financial costs of storm-water runoff. The renovation was completed with minimum impacts to the environment while utilizing existing space to serve the public.

Professional Excellence Awards
Two New Hanover County employees were recognized by the Cape Fear Council of Governments with the Professional Excellence in Aging Awards. Greg Kennedy and Ellen Connor received this esteemed recognition at the Council’s 44th Anniversary Meeting and Awards Banquet on February 23.
Kennedy is a Program Manager with the County’s Senior Resource Center (SRC) and has more than 30 years of public service experience. He maintains oversight of 50 instructors, group leaders, and facilitations for the center’s wide range of programs and activities. His work has been instrumental in the SRC receiving and maintaining its status of “Senior Center of Excellence.”
Connor is the Nutrition Program Manager at the SRC. She oversees the daily delivery of more than 300 home delivered meals and more than 60 congregate meals at the center. Her passion and knowledge have created a successful nutrition program at the center, which also includes monthly cooking classes and healthy eating and lifestyle support groups.
“Greg and Ellen help to improve the lives of our County’s seniors every day,” says Amber Smith, SRC Director. “We are fortunate to have their passion and dedication at the Senior Resource Center.”
