WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 14, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Last night, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted for H.R. 1732, the Regulatory Integrity Protection Act of 2015, which would block the Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from putting into effect its proposed Waters of the United States rule (WOTUS). The proposed rule would give the EPA authority to regulate practically any body of water they want, including ponds and drainage ditches on privately-owned land. If enacted, it would have a devastating economic impact on farmers and private landowners in Eastern North Carolina and throughout the United States.
“The EPA has been out of control for a long time, especially in the Obama era,” said Congressman Jones. “The EPA routinely produces overzealous regulations that cost the American taxpayers billions of dollars a year and infringe on fundamental property rights. These regulations have an incredibly negative effect on job creation and economic growth, which is the last thing we need in Eastern North Carolina. I will continue to do everything I can to curb the outrageous overreach of the Obama EPA.”
Earlier this year, Congressman Jones voted for two bills that would require the EPA to keep lobbyists off the Science Advisory Board and to make available the scientific studies and evidence behind new regulations.
