Maxus Realty Trust, Inc. (“MRTI”), a real estate investment trust with corporate headquarters located in North Kansas City, MO, has completed the acquisition of a controlling interest in Cape Fear Multifamily, LLC (“Cape Fear”). Cape Fear is a single purpose entity that owns the Astoria Apartment Homes (“Astoria”). Astoria is an apartment community located in Hope Mills, North Carolina that was built in 2011 and includes approximately 299,000 square feet spread over 272 apartment units.

The County will be using GovDeals, an on-line auction service provider, for the disposal of this property

To further assist and encourage penalty-free payments, all property tax bills will include four payment coupons. The coupons will reflect the total amount owed, divided into four equal payments. This week, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) introduced a bill to create a voluntary “Residence Star” program to encourage residential property owners to make energy-saving improvements to their residential housing units. Butterfield’s bill – H.R. 3322 –would direct the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish a voluntary program where owners who make qualified energy efficiency improvements to their housing units would receive Residence Star certification.

Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today announced $3,574,061 in federal funding for Greensboro, North Carolina. The funding was allocated through four U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant programs and will be used to support housing initiatives to help those in need. Greensboro will receive $1,967,294 through the Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG), $177,108 through the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program, $1,108,477 through the HOME program and $321,182 through the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program

Small Town Main Street Communities Gain Main Street Status
Nearly a dozen Small Town Main Street communities have now achieved Main Street status. Those communities are Ayden, Benson, Bessemer City, Cherryville, Elizabethtown, Tryon, Valdese, Waxhaw and Williamston. These cities and towns have fulfilled the requirements necessary to achieve this designation such as hiring a permanent Main Street director and organizing their downtown revitalization work in accordance with the Main Street Four-Point® program. These communities will benefit from additional training and resources that the NC Main Street Center offers local Main Street directors
City Council Signs Final Downtown Purchase Agreements
Kannapolis City Council members have finalized the purchase agreements for properties located in the downtown area. The City has purchased land and buildings for $7,550,000 from Castle & Cooke, NC, LLC and Atlantic American Properties, Inc. These firms are owned by Mr. David Murdock. The City is also purchasing K-Town Furniture from the Uwharrie Bank for $875,000 and a house located at 206 S. Main Street house for $325,000.
