Congressman Kissell Announces Housing Grant for Laurinburg

ROCKINGHAM, NC – March 25, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) announced that the Laurinburg Housing Authority has been awarded a grant in the amount of $47,564, through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Housing Choice Voucher Family Self Sufficiency Program.

“This funding will help not only get people back on their feet, it’ll help them stay there and be independent,” said Kissell. “As we work to get our economy back on track, this program not only teaches financial stewardship, it will also help put people back to work.”

The Laurinburg Housing Authority was one of only two dozen programs in the state to receive the funding. The Family Self Sufficiency program is designed to enable participating families to increase earned income and financial literacy, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and promote economic independence and self sufficiency.

“In this current economic downturn, this program helps to provide a path to responsible home ownership, good employment at a living wage, and overall financial responsibility for the families that take part in it,” added Kissell. “I’m so proud to have helped to secure this much-needed funding.”
