Charlotte Housing Authority Rated A High Performer In Section Eight Assessment By HUD For The Fourth Consecutive Year

-

The Charlotte Housing Authority (CHA) has been designated a high performer by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for management of its Section Eight program. This is the fourth consecutive year that the agency has received a high performer status for its Section Eight program.

The high performer status from HUD will allow the agency to be recognized for its strong, organizational management and to be more competitive in seeking funding. According to a letter received on June 18, 2007 from Michael A. Williams, Director of Pubic Housing for the HUD Greensboro Field Office, the CHA received 99 out of 100 points for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2007.

“The 99 received this year is our highest score to date and is up 21 points from our score in 2001,” states Chief Executive Officer Charles Woodyard. “We accredit this score to a firm commitment to business process improvements as well as continual education and training for our workforce. Our organization is committed to helping address the affordable housing issue of Charlotte and efficiently managing the funding provided to achieve this goal.”

The Section Eight Management Assessment Program (SEMAP) is a comprehensive management tool that allows HUD and CHA to identify its capabilities and deficiencies. SEMAP scores are determined by several components, including reasonable rents, expanding housing opportunities, and the number of units under lease. The Authority currently has over 4200 Section Eight vouchers.
