August 14, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — This year, the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency joins with the North Carolina Housing Coalition and the Community Investment Corporation of the Carolinas for the first time to offer you the state’s most comprehensive housing conference ever — all focusing on what’s needed to take affordable housing to the next level. The conference will be October 16 and 17, 2008, at the Durham Marriott at the Civic Center.
The keynote session will offer an inspirational peek into one of the country’s first green, solar-powered affordable housing communities. Anne Wilson, vice president of housing and real estate development for Community HousingWorks in San Diego, CA, will discuss Solara, an affordable multifamily community in Poway, CA. Incorporating energy efficiency, water efficiency, use of recycled materials, and indoor air quality, the development has received more than 10 awards. Breakout sessions will offer practical tips — all applicable for North Carolina — on green building, healthy housing and water conservation.
The Conference Agenda is more varied than ever — a legislative update on state and national housing issues, the annual tax credit developers’ workshop, a CRA update, an update on state housing markets and foreclosure mitigation efforts, and best practice examples of local housing development and preservation.
Special conference alternatives include a four-hour continuing education course for Realtors®, “Financing Dreams” (included in the conference fee); and a certification course for tax credit property managers with national trainer A. J. Johnson (for an additional fee). Participating asset managers complete the required coursework on Thursday and take the certification exam Friday morning.
The highlight of the Thursday Luncheon will be the presentation of the 2008 Housing North Carolina Awards, recognizing the state’s most outstanding recent rental, home ownership and supportive housing developments. Sponsored for 19 years by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, the annual competition is sure to spark new ideas.
The North Carolina Housing Coalition will be celebrating its 20th anniversary at its Annual Legislative and Advocacy Awards Luncheon on Friday. The Housing Coalition will be presenting its 2008 Volunteer of the Year, Legislator of the Year, and Professional of the Year Awards.
The fee for the conference is $115. If you are a member of the N.C. Housing Coalition, the Coalition is providing a reduced registration rate of $95. Registration and fees must be received on or before September 26. For registrations received after September 26, the fee will be $135; N.C. Housing Coalition members will pay $115.
Conference fees for the Asset Management Course will be: $170 for Conference and Asset Management Course only; $285 for Conference and Asset Management Exam only; $345 for Conference and Asset Management Course and Exam. The Realtors® CE Course requires no extra fee to attend.
Fees include the conference, all materials, two luncheons, networking reception, continental breakfasts, and breaks.
