WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 19, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Unemployed workers seeking help with their job search or mortgage payments can find assistance at a Job Search Boot Camp at the Garner Performing Arts Center on February 25.

The N.C. Housing Finance Agency is teaming with the Town of Garner and J. Damien Birkel to host the free event, which will feature two identical sessions from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Birkel, a certified Career Counselor and author of The Job Search Checklist, will coach participants on how to find the hidden job market, build an effective resume, automate the Internet job search and utilize social media.

For homeowners attending the Job Search Boot Camp who may be struggling with their mortgage payments, the N.C. Housing Finance Agency will also be holding an information session about the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund, which it created using funds from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

The Fund provides zero-interest, deferred loans of up to $36,000 of mortgage assistance for N.C. unemployed homeowners searching or retraining for new jobs. It also helps homeowners recovering from temporary financial hardships and returning veterans who are transitioning to civilian jobs.

Since 2010, the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund has helped more than 15,400 North Carolina homeowners avoid losing their homes through foreclosure.

Local housing counselors and members of the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund staff will be available at the Job Search Boot Camp to help attendees find out if they qualify. For more information about the event, call 919-981-2607.
