Governor McCrory Joins Effort to Help Homeless Veterans

Durham, NC – September 20, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Pat McCrory and the Commerce Department’s Division of Workforce Solutions are participating in a Stand Down event in Durham today to help homeless veterans find employment and obtain needed medical, dental, and other services.

“We must treat all of our veterans with dignity and respect,” said Governor McCrory. “As governor of a state with a huge military population, my administration is doing all it can to honor and support veterans and their families.”

The Stand Down is today from 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at 750 Stadium Drive in Durham.

Stand Downs provide veterans with housing assistance, food, clothing, and medical and dental care, thanks to partnerships between the Division of Workforce Solutions and communities, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, federal, state and local agencies, community colleges and the Internal Revenue Service. Veterans will receive hot meals, clothing, shoes, personal hygiene items, sleeping bags and blankets.

“We’re extremely proud to offer our support to such a worthwhile program,” said Roger Shackleford, Assistant Secretary for Workforce Solutions. “Not only can we help a significant part of North Carolina’s workforce, but we can also give back to those men and women who have given so much for our state and country.”

Stand Downs are scheduled in the following North Carolina communities throughout the rest of 2013:

• Greensboro – September 27

• Raleigh – October 4

• Sanford – October 12

• Charlotte – October 15

• Greenville – October 25

• Fayetteville – TBA

• Goldsboro – November 6

• Reidsville – November 8
