Outer Banks, NC – November 7, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Outer Banks Real Estate shares the upcoming event on Outer Banks, North Carolina. On November 8 – 13, 2011, the 15th Annual Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival will include several opportunities that will please those who want to learn more about the history of the area or see the starts, in addition to the birding, paddling & photography programs.

Participants will be able to relax in the Lost Colony’s Waterside Theatre as they take a night sky tour with astronomer Woodrow Grizzle, from the Elizabeth City State University ECSU Planetarium, as their guide. Participants will be able to see the same stars that guided The Lost Colony to the shores twenty years ago before Jamestown was established. Participants will be given a chance to hear about the stories in the night sky & discover the constellation and dazzling stars that have amazed humankind for years.

Portsmouth Island village, settled in 1753 by NC’s Colonial Assembly and kept by the National Park Service since the year 1976, is a step back in history. Even the last occupant left in the year 1971, the village and its remaining structures, on the National Register of Historic Places, are a proven monument to a once flourishing and lively coastal neighborhood.

On Roanoke Island, the place where the 1st attempt at English colonization of the New World (20 years ago Jamestown), see the Island Farm that was established by Jesse Etheridge in 1783, and his grandson constructed the restored 2-story home around 1850 with the use of hewn & pit-sawn timbers and bricks that was believed to be from ship’s ballast. Participants will be able to visit at the grounds – view grazing sheep & maintained outbuildings and have a stop at stations that relive the exciting life of the 1850’s. From old-style cooking where participants can try their hands at making a cornmeal Johnny cake to kids can try playing with the toys and games the Etheridge children played with, such as England and France, Hunt the Slipper and many more.

And as expected, there are numerous programs that focus on paddling, birding, photography and other wildlife escapades.

The birding trips vary from beginners to experts who are looking for a life-list species. There are over 400 species that can be seen on the Outer Banks NC, of which over ¼ of a million acres is in Dare County’s conservation. For those who want to add pelagic species to their lists, pelagic trips are also included for this year.

The county offers a few of the country’s greatest paddling for kayak and canoe enthusiasts. From endless swamp mazes to tannin-fed cypress marsh, participants can paddle the region for a lifetime and still be able to study charts at night, learning about the unexplored areas. Registration is currently open for a variety of water trips guided by leaders who are familiar with the various areas. Physical demands vary from open water with wind exposure, to brief distance with excellent wind protection.

Award-winning photographer, biologist and author, Todd Pusser will be the keynote speaker for this year’s annual reception dinner on November 12 at North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.

Lastly, participants will end the day with a relaxing stroll through Roanoke Island’s Aquarium as they enjoy a soothing drink then scrumptious dinner in front of the shark tank. After the dinner, participants can enjoy Pusser’s presentation. Todd Pusser has traveled to over 30 countries and into every ocean in the world. His pictures have been shows in hundreds of publications in the world and have been featured in different well-known magazines like BBC Wildlife, National Geographic Kids, National Wildlife & Ocean Realm. Social is at 6:00 pm and dinner at 7:00 pm.
