Outer Banks Real Estate Reports About the 25th Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival
Outer Banks, NC – October 31, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — This October, the 25th Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival was held on Morehead City Waterfront. Every year, the Seafood festival brings in chefs from around the state together for the “Cooking with the Chefs: A North Carolina Seafood Experience.”
Cooking with the Chefs is an entertaining and informational showcase and presentation by the chefs around the state and the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries. This session also included various cooking information such as how to scale, fillet, skin different types of fish, and even the proper utensils needed to do so. A tent in the event served as the center of information, including recycling oyster shells to North Carolina, and also hosted the tastings of dishes from different restaurants that use local seafood. After each demonstration and tasting, the North Carolina Marine Fisheries held different sessions to show the different ways to prepare seafoods.
The educational session continued with the participation of the co-sponsor of the event, North Carolina Sea Grant. North Carolina Sea Grant is an inter-institutional program that aims to research & education community members on a wide variety of topics such as:
-Water Quality
-Fisheries
-Seafood Science and Technology
-Aquaculture
-Law and Policy
-Community Development
-Coastal Hazards
They are also responsible for the practical handout on selecting North Carolina Seafood. For more information, visit http://www.ncseagrant.org/images/stories/ncsg_pdf/documents/products/guides/Quality_Counts.pdf
All the participating chefs had the mission of making a recipe using local seafood that everyone in the crowd can taste. 7 of the participating chefs used 1 of the 4 local seafood branding program. The branding program is composed of Brunswick Catch, Carteret Catch, Outer Banks Catch and Ocracoke Fresh. These branding programs support the use of local seafood to be used by restaurants, retailers, and wholesalers.
